Project 365: Day 229

Blurry bumpy bus stuck in the streets of New York City. Actually stuck, as in couldn't make any progress down the street. It was something of an adventure.

Project 365: Day 228

Coffee. It gets me through the day, especially with all the lectures we've been having. But perhaps this was excessive?

Another surprise and awesome package from Lynn-- matching tee shirts for me and AJ so we can be Irish together. :-D

Project 365: Day 221

Lynn sent me maybe the best surprise package ever:

So much awesomeness I cannot even express it. I am going to start you off this this one-- a quick desk snapshot of the king offering to Sakhmet, perhaps, before building you up to the awesome might of Pharaoh's army, or the whole amazing temple scene, which may involve video at some point.

Project 365: Day 220

Professor Jasnow's diagram of the Rosetta Stone from class today. Not pictured is his demonstration of Amun: The Hidden One.

Project 365: Day 219

I took these today while getting a ride from the department to main campus. They were clearing the snow on Charles St with bobcats and dump trucks, and getting us stuck, and they were towing cars one block so they could get at the snow. It was really crazy.

Project 365: Day 218

It's snowing again. Augh. At least it renders the insane traffic on St. Paul prettier than normal!

Project 365: Day 215

Another cop out-- obviously I didn't take this. But AJ and  I curled up on the couch and watched the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in Vancouver, which was lovely.

Project 365: Day 214

Still more snow pictures. I know, it's crazy. But we've gotten over 6 feet of snow here this winter when the annual average is about 18 inches (for the whole winter). Yeah. So it's nuts. Also I'm going a little stir crazy, with my limited ability to leave the house.

Project 365: Day 213

The last thing Baltimore needs is more snow. Yet that is exactly what we're getting. Yikes. 10 am, Wednesday.

Project 365: Day 211

In honor of our distinguished President calling the storm Snowmageddon (and history being canceled tomorrow!!) I feel this is appropriate.

Project 365: Day 209

Snowpocalypse 2.1!
The snow continued most of the day, finally stopping around 4pm. So much snow! It's certainly in the top ten of historic snowfalls in Baltimore, and pretty intense. Especially considering that no one here even owns a shovel.

Project 365: Day 208

SNOWPOCALYPSE 2.0!
Baltimore really doesn't have any idea what to do with snow. It's annoying-- people rush the grocery stores, and clean them out of milk, bread, and TP. They don't know how to drive in snow (or better yet, not to drive in it at all if they don't know how!) and the city and state don't have the proper equipment to deal with the plowing and salting when we do get a big storm. Of course, Maryland is already WAY over its budget for snow, and that's even before the SNOWPOCALYPSE 2.0 hits. We're expecting up to 35 inches of snow. It's nearly midnight now, and it has been snowing hard since 10 am or so.
This was about 8pm, I think. Snowing hard, but not terrible yet.
Though less clear, you can tell that the volume of snow has about doubled. This was perhaps 10pm.
This was about 11:45 pm, so just a few minutes ago. The snow is much deeper on the ground, and completely whiting-out the fence. Note also the trees and powerlines. Wooo!
I'm holed up inside. I made potato soup and homemade bread for dinner, and don't plan on leaving the house again (unless it's to make a snowman) until Sunday morning at the earliest. More photos are already on facebook.

(Yes, that is ancient Egyptian for "It's a-me, Mario!")

Project 365: Day 206

More snow, this time at night and from my bedroom window.

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Project 365: Day 205

The minor snow that almost shut everything down on Tuesday. Ha!
But also, isn't campus pretty in the snow?

Project 365: Day 204

This is as good a time as any to mention, and direct you to, my newest blogging project: Cooking 601. It's a low intensity blog where I offer tips, recipes and such that I like to people who are trying to cook for one, on a budget, or with limited cooking skills. This recipe will go up tomorrow.
